Florida freshman CB Steele enters transfer portal

Defensive back Chris Steele, the highest-ranked Florida signee in the Class of 2019, has entered the transfer portal.

He graduated early from prep powerhouse St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif., to enroll in school in January but apparently wants out of coach Dan Mullen’s program.

Zach Abolverdi of Gator Sports reported Thursday that Steele and his parents were unhappy that Mullen didn’t reassign Steele immediately to a new dorm room when he asked for the move soon after arriving on campus. He apparently was uncomfortable sharing a room with quarterback Jalon Jones, another early entrant.

Jones, also a four-star recruit, left the school after being accused of the sexual battery of two women. The allegations stem from two incidents that allegedly occurred about 30 minutes apart on April 6.

A high school All-American, Steele was the No. 5 cornerback and the nation’s No. 42 overall prospect in the class, according to the 247Sports composite. He had worked with the No. 1 defense in spring drills.
