Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is expected to be named head coach at Akron, Yahoo Sports reported.
It would represent a homecoming for Moorhead, who was an assistant coach at the Ohio school from 2004-08.
Since then, he served as the head coach at Mississippi State (2018-19) and his alma mater, Fordham (2012-15), as well as the offensive coordinator at Penn State (2016-17) and UConn (2009-11).
Moorhead, 48, joined the Ducks’ staff in 2020.
At Mississippi State, he had a 14-12 record with two bowl appearances, and at Fordham, his Rams were 38-13. He led the team to the Patriot League title in 2014, and Fordham reached the FCS playoffs in each of his final three seasons.
Akron fired coach Tom Arth on Nov. 4.
Arth, 40, was in his third season with the Zips and had a 3-24 overall record with the program. The Zips finished the 2021 season with a 2-10 (1-7 Mid-American Conference) mark.
