Below is a list of local events and organizations you can help too!

Hunger Action Month:

While it may be hard to believe, over 340,000 Iowans may not know where their next meal will come from. In communities just like ours, there are many who need help. September is Hunger Action Month. Join people across the country who are coming together to end hunger and bring awareness to food insecurity. Start today. It can be as easy as donating food and money or volunteering your time. Whatever level of involvement is right for you, it is simple to find and help your neighbors in need. So get involved. Visit foodbankiowa.org and learn how you can make a difference today.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace: September 14

Sleep in Heavenly Peace will host a bunk bed build and bedding drive on Saturday, September 14 from 9 am until 3 pm at Lowe’s Jordan Creek. Come and join their volunteers to help build beds for kids who don’t have beds of their own. No building experience is necessary to help – they will provide all tools and instruction. If you aren’t able to volunteer, stop by to drop off your donation of new pillows, twin-sized sheet sets, comforters, mattress pads, or bed-in-a-bag sets.  Contact lin.vandeberg@shpbeds.org to volunteer for a 2 hour shift or for more information.  Join us as Sleep In Heavenly Peace works toward their mission, “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!”

They are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has been in the Des Moines area for less than 1 year, and have already built and delivered beds to 122 local children.
